Chinese Magnets
These magnets attach to any steel surface such as a refrigerator door or a desk lamp.
Like all languages, there is not always a one-to-one correspondence between the Chinese meaning and the English meaning. This is especially true for words that represent concepts. Each language has its own context. The English translation used on these magnets represents the word associated with elementary Chinese teaching.
There are three different sets:
Set 1 - This set contains 136 magnets for 1st year Chinese. This consists of the 124 characters of which twelve common characters are repeated.
Price: $15.00
Set 2 - This set contains 128 magnets for 2nd year Chinese. This is a continuation of Set 1.
Price: $15.00
Travelers Set - This set contains over 138 magnets which includes the numbers 1 - 10, the 100 most common words in Chinese, the seasons, directions, and colors along with a few useful tourist words. The purpose is to familiarize travelers with words they will likely see.
Price: $15.00

Besides the typical flashcard memory games, these cards permit several fun variations. Cards can be placed on the table in various formations allowing the learner to match Chinese characters or Chinese with pronunciation or with English meaning. Simple card games where the players can only match a card that is pronounced correctly add more interest to learning Chinese. Another simple game begins by removing one card and asking the student to discover which one is missing. This can only be accomplished by matching up all the other cards. In doing so, the student practices recognizing all the characters along with matching the pronunciation and the meaning.
And the really good news is that when we do it (inject fun and games into training) we will find …that adding fun into the process will not only make learning and training much more enjoyable and compelling but also far more effective as well. – Marc Prensky (2001).
